Through coaching everyone does better.

I believe that through coaching everyone does better. There is something about being accountable to someone else that causes us to continue to stretch and move forword, without getting stuck. Coaching helps provide motivation and perspective when the future looks dim. Here are a couple of great quotes from Thomas Bandy that inspire me today to be the best coach possible.

However, coaching is not really about winning. It is about growing. Great coaching has more to do with losing without despair and doing better the next time without naïveté. Great coaching has more to do with clarity of purpose than achieving victory. Great coaching is not about winning the Super Bowl, but about empowering your players to resist celebrating victory with cocaine, fast cars, braggadocio, and lucrative endorsements, so that they can play again even better. More than this, great coaching is about losing a big game and empowering your players to resist steroid abuse, fast cars, despondency, and lucrative litigation with club ownership, so that they can play again better next time. [1]“In the glitz and pressure of the figure skating world, too many coaches and clubs fail to realize that truly healthy people are more likely to win those medals than unhealthy people.”[2]

Have a great day!
